I Care and Want to Assist

Care & Assistance is also available to help students connect with resources when they are dealing with significant levels of distress. As a community of Islanders, it is important for us to look out for one another. Anyone, including concerned family members can make a referral to Care & Assistance for:

  • Support with resources
  • Mental health issues
  • Suicidal ideation
  • High risk behaviors

Some examples of students who may need support are those struggling with depression, a combination of academic and mental health concerns, homelessness, suicidal thoughts, thoughts of harming others, repeated classroom disruptions, exhibiting signs of an eating disorder, or showing signs of threatening behavior which does not pose an immediate risk to harm.

Care & Assistance also leads the I-CARE Behavioral Intervention Team. The team reviews cases presented by the I-CARE Case Manager regarding students exhibiting disruptive, distressed, or high-risk behaviors. The team provides recommendations for campus and community resources to help and support the student of concern. Learn more about I-CARE by clicking HERE.

Care & Assistance is not designed to handle cases of immediate threats to the safety of the student or others.  In these cases, UPD, or other local emergency services, should be notified directly.

If you are concerned about a student and believe they could benefit from the I-CARE Case Manager reaching out to them, please click on the button below to make a referral. Students can also self-refer.

If you are unsure if you need to make a referral, please reach out anyway. You can call 361-825-6219 or email deanofstudents@tamucc.edu with any questions.
