Practicum & Internship Training Programs

The TAMU-CC University Counseling Center (UCC) offers site placements for masters & doctoral level students pursuing graduate program and licensure requirements. We utilize a developmental supervision model to provide a challenging, growth oriented, and professionally supportive experience. Interns will manage a caseload of TAMU-CC students appropriate for their experience level. Clinical cases will assist interns in defining and applying their theoretical orientation, facilitate the mastery of basic and advanced counseling skills, and provide the clinical knowledge, supervision, and support the transition from interns to professional colleagues prepared for the field of mental health.

The UCC offers Counseling Internships in the Fall and Spring, as well as Counseling Practicum during Summer semesters. We typically request a 2-3 semester commitment at the UCC. If you have placement needs other than these, please contact the Training Coordinator for options.

The UCC may be able to meet training requirements for graduate Psychology students on a case-by-case basis. Please contact the Training Coordinator to discuss your psychology program’s site requirements.

Please note, due to potential conflicts of interest, the UCC does not consider applications from students who received UCC Individual Counseling services in the past academic year.

The UCC training program is designed for students in a Masters in Professional Counseling program enrolled for Practicum, Internship 1 or 2, or in a Doctoral Counseling program. A successful background check is required.

Students will complete 15-20+ hours weekly on site during UCC business hours (Mon-Fri, 8-5p) for at least 13 weeks during the semester.

All clinical services are provided at the UCC for in-person and telemental health modalities while the TAMU-CC campus remains open for in-person courses.

The UCC utilizes a Stepped Care model for prevention, wellness, and clinical services. Interns may experience the following:

• Group Counseling and Workshops
• Individual Counseling
• Single Session and Initial Consults
• Clinical Assessment & Diagnosis
• Outreach Events
• Program Development
• Crisis Intervention
• Case Consultations
• Integrative Behavioral Health
• Trainings & Professional Development

Interns can expect their weekly schedule to include:

• 1 hour of individual supervision with licensed clinicians (Click HERE to meet the staff)
• Opportunities to join clinical consultation and professional development meetings
• 50-60% of hours will be direct services with students
• 20-30% of hours will be indirect services (e.g. documentation, session review, or supervision)

Weekly schedules for interns are determined by clinical needs, intern interests and availability, and office space.

Students interested in applying should contact the Training Coordinator for the most recent Application Packet and Recommendation Forms. The following materials are needed for a completed application:

• Application form. Provided via email upon request or at CNEP Site Fair
• A Curriculum Vitae/Resume with relevant mental health experience
• An unofficial/official graduate transcript
• For Counseling Internship applications, a Clinical Supervisor Recommendation Letter from your current primary practicum supervisor
• For Counseling Practicum applications, a Professor Recommendation Letter from a recent graduate professor directly knowledgeable of your clinical skills, frequently The Counseling Process (CNEP 5384) professor
  • A cover letter (limit 2 pages) that addresses the following:
  • Your expectations and goals for internship/practicum
  • Your strengths and growth areas as a clinician in training
  • The qualities you seek in a supervisor and your expectations for clinical supervision

Please submit all application materials together via email or at the UCC located in the Driftwood building on the TAMU-CC campus.

Completed Applications will be accepted by UCC Training Coordinator beginning on:

• Spring Internship – First week of October through November
• Summer Internship/Practicum – First week of March through April
• Fall Internship – First week of March through July

Applications will remain open until all available internship positions are filled.

The TAMU-CC University Counseling Center (UCC) offers practicum placement opportunities for students in the Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences program. This is an unpaid, one-semester practicum placement for final semester seniors.   

Health Science Practicum (HSP) students will work with the UCC Clinical Case Manager to identify, research, develop, and implement education and outreach activities for the campus community. Opportunities may also be available for community at-large engagement, UCC workshop development, marketing, and social media expansion. Outreach projects should support the goals of the UCC and the needs of the campus community and partners. The HSP program fosters and encourages professional growth in an integrated mental health care setting.  

Due to potential conflicts of interests, students are not eligible who have received individual or group counseling at the UCC within the past academic year. 

Fall/Spring HSP Students should start their hours before the second week of classes. Summer HSP students should start within the first week of classes.  

HSP Students will receive one hour of scheduled supervision per week with the UCC proctor. 

HSP Students are expected to complete all projects and tasks in a timely manner and under the supervision of the UCC proctor. Midterm and Final evaluations provided by the BSHS course will reflect the work as completed.

Appropriate applicants will be invited to an interview with the UCC proctor. Decisions are typically made within three (3) business days once all interviews are complete.
