What is an AED?

An AED, or automated external defibrillator, is used to help those experiencing     sudden cardiac arrest. It is a sophisticated, yet easy-to-use, medical device that can analyze the heart's rhythm and, if necessary, deliver an electrical shock, or defibrillation, to help the heart re-establish an effective  rhythm.

University Procedure 24.01.01.C0.01 Utility Cart Safety

The purpose of this procedure is to ensure that Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi has a cart safety plan that applies to all university employees, state/federal agency tenants, contractors, vendors, visitors, volunteers, and student employees, who use the specified modes of transportation for official university business. Any use not related to official university business is prohibited.

Requests for Cart Training will be review each Thursday. Once approved, hand-on training will be scheduled for the following Wednesday or Thursday.

Effective October 1, 2024

• Hands on cart training will be conducted once a week on Thursday mornings between 9:00-11:00am.  Training for Carts will be on an as-needed basis.

• Requests will be sent to the office of Environmental, Health and Safety for approval prior to the start of your cart training.

• In accordance with TAMU System policy, non-university employees are not authorized or covered under liability insurance to drive any System owned or non-system owed vehicles on behalf of the System, including TAMU-CC.

• Carts should only be used for official university business, any use other than official business is expressly prohibited. Violations of misuse may result in removal of cart privileges.

The Online Cart Training is automated using Smartsheets. 

Step 1:  Supervisor will submit a request for cart training for employee.

 Step 2:  EHS will review request, confirm employment and departmental need. Supervisor will receive notification of approval or denial.

•  If approved, employee will receive a link to the cart training PowerPoint and, at the end of the quiz, employee will schedule the hands-on training (driving portion).  
• All hands-on cart trainings must be scheduled through EHS.

 Step 3:  Employee will report to the Environmental, Health & Safety office (NRC 1100) on their confirmed hands-on training date/time.

•  Employees must bring their valid driver’s license with them.

Failure to bring driver’s license will conclude the training and employee will have to reschedule.

 Step 4:  An EHS representative will evaluate the driver on safe operation of the cart. Upon successful completion, the driver and supervisor will receive a final certificate of completion.

All newly purchased and current carts must be equipped with the following equipment:

• Rear view mirror
• Audible alarm signifying the cart is moving in reverse
• Horn, headlights, break lights, taillights and turn signals
• Outside mirrors if Cart has enclosed cab/or enclosed with cargo box
• *Departmental name and assigned identification number
• *Orange Safety Flag on a 5’ fiberglass rod displayed.
• *Laminated cart map attached to front dash.

*Motor pool can assist with these items.

Cart Purchase Request Form - Purchases of motorized Carts, or Cart-Type modes of transportation, require a Cart Purchase Request Form submitted with a Requisition Number.

Once submitted, this form will be routed to Environmental, Health & Safety office and Vice President for Finance and Administration for review and approval.

The Department Head/ Designee listed on this request form will be notified of approval outcomes via Smartsheet notification.

How to Use training video

All proposed outdoor events on the TAMUCC campus, even those that do NOT require space reservations under UC Reservations must submit the Event Safety Review Form for event approval at least 14 days prior to the start of the event.  

This allows EHS to ensure that all permitting, and safety requirements are completed prior to your event start date. 

An Animal Permit Application is required for this event.

1. Each vendor who will bring farm animals into the Corpus Christi city limits (on campus) for an event will need an Animal Permit Application.
2. To obtain a permit, the vendor will complete the form and submit it Corpus Christi Animal Care Services along with payment.
3. Animal Control will issue a receipt of payment.
4. On the date of the event, an Animal Control Officer will arrive prior to the start of the event and will inspect and issue the permit. Then they leave. This process takes about 5-10 minutes.
5. Separate permits will be required for each vendor.

Inflatable Guidelines

When considering the use of amusement type rides for any activity (bounce houses are considered amusement rides) System Risk Management would refer you to the Texas Department of Insurance website regarding amusement ride regulations. This site provides a wealth of information regarding inspections and certifications by vendors of their respective amusement rides.

This event may require a hot work permit and/or a fire extinguisher. Departments are responsible for providing their own.

Events are considered large-scale events if they meet or more of the following criteria:

• Estimated attendance of 250 to 499
• Crowd Manager training is required (1 per every 250 in attendance)
• Security is requested, required if alcohol is served  
• Open to the public
• Live music with no seating

Any work, study or research approved by Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi and conducted by faculty, staff, or students at a site other than the Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi campus.

Where work is being performed on a permanent basis at a remote location, this is taken to be their normal place of work and not fieldwork activities. 

Food establishments are subject to inspection, by EHS, at random.

All employees must have Food Handlers Certifications on file with the establishment.

Every contractor is expected to take steps to protect the safety and health of our faculty, staff, students, and visitors during the performance of their work activities. Contractors are expected to comply with all rules, regulations, and best management practices applicable to the Construction Site and are responsible for ensuring that their sub-contractors do the same.

Routine unannounced inspections may be conducted by E,H&S. These job site visits are conducted solely for the benefit of the university and shall not relieve the contractor of responsibility for enforcement of, and compliance with OSHA regulations.

By System Regulation 24.01.07, The Texas A&M University System established requirements for each System member to follow relating to the operation of small UAS on System member property by contractors, vendors, employees, and students as well as operations of small UAS by System member employees in any location as part of their System member employment or member activities.

Most importantly, it establishes the member Supervising Authority which is the official member entity having administrative duties over the use and operation of small UAS on its property and by its employees/students.

The Regulation creates inventory requirements for small UAS purchased by System members.

Most flights on Texas A&M's campus will fall under Part 107 of the FAA rule.
