In observance of Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15 - October 15), Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi is celebrating by hosting a variety of events on campus offering enriching conversations, presentations, and showcases. Most events are free and open to the public.
September 15 –- The Blooming of a Rose: A Retrospective of Oscar Martinez
Antonio E. Garcia Arts and Education Center | 5:00-8:00 p.m.
This exhibition honors the Tejano music legend and Corpus Christi native.

John Leguizamo delves into both well-known and lesser-known stories of Latino history and contributions, spanning thousands of years from the Ancient Empires to the early 1970’s. Co-created by Leguizamo and award-winning filmmaker Ben Dejesus, American Historia: The Untold History of Latinos is presented by Latino Public Broadcasting and Thirteen WNET New York. Each episode will be shown at the PAC. Following each episode will be a panel discussion with TAMU-CC faculty with Q&A. September 18 – Dr. Hector P. Garcia Day Celebration

Come join us to honor and celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Hector P. Garcia, local Mexican-American physician, World War II Veteran and civil rights activist. Dr. Garcia, founder of the American GI Forum, fought for the rights of Hispanic Americans and veterans who were denied housing, medical, and educational opportunities. Since 2009, we honor Dr. Garcia's work and memory on the third Wednesday of September. The program will begin on Wednesday, September 18 at 2 p.m. on the first floor of Mary and Jeff Bell Library with a presentation, Feeding Hope: Dr. Hector P. Garcia & Community Advocacy with Food Insecurity by Kristeen Baum followed by a reception with music and refreshments. October 9 – Larry and Joe Performance

Larry and Joe are the season kickoff show in the 2024-2025 Furgason BRAVO! Concert Series. Larry and Joe are a singer-songwriting duo who perform a fusion of Venezuelan and Appalachian folk music, furthering their mission “to show that music has no borders.” Larry Bellorín grew up in Punta de Mata in the state of Monagas, Venezuela. He's accompanied Venezuelan musical luminaries including Cristina Maica, Teo Galindez, and Rumi Olivo. While touring the country as a performer, he and his wife opened Casa Vieja, a school dedicated to teaching Música Llanera. Joe Troop is a multi-instrumentalist, singer, and songwriter originally from Winston-Salem, North Carolina. The founder of GRAMMY-nominated stringband Che Apalache, Joe’s music is deeply inspired by his decade living in Buenos Aires and traveling throughout Latin America.
