Complete Application for Admission:

• An applicant may defer admission to an earlier/later semester. Applications are valid for one year. One deferral is allowed per application.

Application fee:

• $50 for US citizen, $70 for International Students
  • Pay during application process
  • Pay fee online: Pay Online
  • Pay fee on campus to Business Office

Please Note: Applicants who wish to apply for a different program will be required to submit a new application. The application processing fee is required for each application submitted.

Requirements:

Application requirements specific to this program:

• Official transcripts from all undergraduate and graduate course work taken at any accredited college or University attended (Foreign College credits/transcripts require an official foreign evaluation. Please click here). TAMU-CC transcript is not required.
• Complete the Code of Ethics Education Form
• Complete the Pre-Admission Content test and submit passing scores to gradweb@tamucc.edu
  • PACT requirements and sign-up information

Applicants to the MAC program must also submit:

• Background disclosure form with Texas Educator’s Code of Ethics, FERPA consent, & Dismissal Policy (pdf)
• Declaration of Certification form

Additional International Applicant Requirements

Application requirements for international applicants:

• Copy of current Visa (if applicable)
• English Language Proficiency. TAMUCC currently accepts the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) within the last 2 years :
  • Official TOEFL score minimum paper-based score of 550 or internet-based score of 79-80
  • Official IELTS score minimum 6.5

Step 1

Fill out the information form. (You must have first completed your bachelor's degree from an accredited institution with a 3.0 or higher GPA over the last 60 hours.)

Step 2

Apply to grad school.

Step 3

Begin your coursework with an online orientation course and your first two classes, EDUC 5351 (Foundations of American Education) and EDUC 5352 (Planning/Teaching/Learning Processes).

Step 4

Take and pass your TExES content test if you plan to student teach and/or intern.

Step 5

Complete your field experience as either of the following:

• Student teacher
  Student teachers spend a 13-week period working full-time in the classroom alongside a certified teacher. Student teachers are unpaid.
• Intern
  Interns work as full-time, paid teachers for two school semesters. The intern works alone with complete charge of the class but is assigned a certified teacher as a mentor.

Step 6

Take and pass the state's PPR exam (Pedagogy and Professional Responsibilities). The PPR is a requirement to become certified by the State of Texas. We will provide an online review and practice test. The classes you have taken have focused on the skills you will need to both pass the test and become a master teacher.

After completing the above steps, you will complete any remaining coursework and contact Carol Pike to apply for certification with the Texas Education Agency.
